After the first year of life, children begin taking their first steps towards greater mobility and independence. This transition – which includes milestones like starting to walk and moving from formula to whole milk – is aided by a strong bond between children and their teacher, and a strong partnership between parents.
In the classroom your child will progress to learning more complex language and concepts of naming, identifying, and using their senses to explore many alternatives and new possibilities. Tasting, hearing, smelling, seeing and touching are part of the daily curriculum as your child begins to discover the world around them. They’ll be interacting and exploring a diversity of materials such as paper, clay, rice, sand, water, paint and more.
Your child will be guided in developing their own identity, and becoming independent. While in this stage children will generally play alone, they’ll begin to appreciate the presence of their classmates and question when one of them is absent.
As your child grows they’ll continue to follow a routine schedule consisting of diaper changes and hand washing, creative art, outdoor play, naptime, center time, lunch time, and more. Continuing to get your child acclimated to a routine schedule will prepare them for their future education by creating a consistent classroom experience.
